Harnessing indecent dressing trend in higher institution

There’s a popular saying dress the way you want to be addressed. Most young ladies, especially In higher institution in Nigeria, has thrown away their decent culture of dressing and opted for western fashion style of exposing discreet part of their bodies, all in the name of fashion. JEMIMAH EMMANUEL writes on this ongoing trend in higher institution in Nigeria.

So many people in Nigeria and many other countries, now view fashion as dressing to expose ones body. most people no long see fashion as an orderly arrangement of clothes design to fit in ones body shape.
In Nigeria, the rate of indecent dressing recorded in both gender, especially among young ladies, has been on the increase as each day passes by.  Blueprint spoke to some male students about their views on ladies who expose their bodies all in the name of fashion and trying to meet up with “civilisation,” and they had this to say.
A student of Kogi State University, Anyigba, Umar Abubakar Sideeq, who frowned at the high rate of indecent dressing among ladies in higher institution, said this is caused by indiscipline from homes and institution of learning.
“If a lady of early twenties wears something that exposes her nakedness, people will call it fashion instead of correcting her or discipline the person,” he explained
Umar Sideeq further stressed that parent should teach their children how to dress decently as there is a popular saying “charity begins at home,” and high institution should be very strict on students who dress indecently in campus.
Another student of Kogi State University, Anyigba, who is popularly called Ben B, said in some higher institution the management of the institution no longer see anything bad in dressing indecently, hence everybody wear what they want without been questioned.
“Indecent dressing has made them vulnerable to prostitution, rape, poor academic performance and indecent act,” he stressed.
Also speaking, a student of A.B.U Zaria, Kawu Yaqoob Mahmoud,  blamed parent and management of higher institution, saying many young ladies and men dress thesame way they dress in school; indecently, this is as a result of carefree attitude on the side of their parents, and this can be curbed by parents stepping up to their responsibility.
Indecent dressing does more damage than good to an individual because when a lady exposes all the parts of her body, leaving nothing to the imagination, it destroys her integrity and respect. As an individual we have to be morally upright and dress responsibly thus we become objects of emulation within our domain and beyond.
