The Police in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, have said that gunmen on Wednesday evening killed an Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP), Baba Ibrahim, at Katsina-Ala local government.
This is even as the Command confirmed the arrest of three police officers and three security guards who were on duty at the Radio Benue station when hoodlums broke into the station and made away with several items.
They said that the ASP was leader of the Police Task-Force on Cattle Rustling from the force headquarters.
The force’s Public Relation Officer, Austin Ezeani, told newsmen yesterday that Ibrahim and his team were attacked at the Katsina-Ala Cattle Market in a Toyota vehicle who recklessly drove into the market, discriminately shotting at the team and sped off while people scampered for their lives.
Ezeani added that the other six members of the team were seriously injured and were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
He said the command had commenced a systematic raid on criminal and gun running in the state to flush out criminal elements in the state, especially in the Katsina-Ala axis.
He said that the command had commenced full investigations into the matter, adding that the command would do everything with its powers to arrest the people responsible for the crime.
It would be recalled that hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday invaded the Benue state-owned media house, Radio Benue, and carted away money, some vital documents and other items.
Ezeani also disclosed that the command also detained two officers and security guards who were on duty at the Katsina-Ala INEC on April 18, when the office was torched.
