Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Monday killed three persons and shot military man at Tor Donga, Katsina Ala local government area of Benue state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident, said the wounded soldier was part of a military special squad stationed in the area close to where the robbery took place.
He said the soldier was shot by the robbers while responding to a distress call from the victims, but added that “only two persons were killed in the robbery operation.”
Yamu said that one the civilians shot by the robbers died on his way to the hospital, while the military man is still in the hospital responding to treatment.
But one of the residents, Mr. Terfa Akpen, told Blueprint that the armed robbers attacked, Amena filling station in the area and shot one person serving at the filling station and also shot and killed two others who were returning from the church service.
“The armed robbers drove into the filling station on Monday around 7pm and ordered everyone to lie on the bare floor and face down, but one of the victims raised his head during the process; that was why the armed robbers shot him. But I heard the man died on the way to the hospital,” he said.
