The Benue Youth for Development (BEYD), a coalition of 100 groups, has given a boost to the grassroots support base of Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state.
The coalition which cuts across the state had, on Tuesday, December 10, converged to hold a one-million-man march in demonstration of their solidarity to the administration of Governor Alia for his dedication and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The group particularly acknowledged the contribution of the governor to the welfare of the people, especially the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, which was lost in the past administration.
“Not only has the governor restored the dignity of labour, he has brought back the zeal in public service” the group further acknowledged the infrastructural development within a short time in office attributing this feat to the commitment of the governor.
“When you look at the pace of social welfare, infrastructure development, peace and security as compared to the recent past administrations, you will be able to justify while Benue youths are happy,” one of the participants was quoted as saying.
Convener of the movement, Krayzetee Terver Atu, while addressing the mammoth crowd, highlighted the modest achievements of the governor so far in minimum wage implementation, social welfare, the provision of subsidised farm inputs to farmers, peace efforts in Sankera, state wide infrastructure among others, and emphasised the need for support to the governor.
“The governor is so far doing well as everyone can attest, so there’s no need for distraction, politics has its season,” he said, maintaining that the time for governance should be dedicated to service to the people rather than bitterness,” he said.
