Group urges Senators to support Akabio as Senate President

The Northern Confederates has called on the senators and senators-elect to imbibe patriotism and party loyalty and full support the senate presidential aspiration of Senator Godswill Akpabio, who was chosen by the All Progressive Congress (APC) as its candidate for the next Senate president.

A statement by the group coordinator, His Imperial Majesty, Alhaji Abdulkadir Otaru, said Senator Akpabio is a natural-born leader of men and a fearless fighter for the people and most capable and trusted to drive the legislative agenda of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision and deliver the type of purpose-driven, no-nonsense and transformational leadership Nigerians had expected of the APC since 2015.

The coordinator said the former Akwa Ibom state governor joined the race with a most impressive resume; a most redoubtable force of personality and a golden reputation for ruthless efficiency.

Otaru said Akpabio is a serial winner and the last of the governorship class of 2015 still on upward political trajectory since he upturned the form books and wrestled the PDP governorship ticket in 2007 from Governor Victor Atta, who was positioning his son-in-law to succeed him. Akwa Ibomites have since been extravagantly rewarded for their choice. And so would the country if Akpabio gets the opportunity to steer the 10th senate.

The coordinator said: “We therefore implore senators to elect their leaders considering their ability and capability to make a difference and add value to the society and the party brand, something that is presently at an all-time low. It is imperative of Senators and Party stalwarts to align with Tinubu’s preferences so the in-coming president cannot pass the blame if he comes up short of expectations.

“Despite Akpabio’s well-deserved endorsement from the president-elect, the national working committee and the consensus of the APC caucus, it is albeit sad that those who owe much of their national preeminence to Asiwaju’s patronage and already betrayed him at the APC primaries are behind the contrived confusion and uncertainty in the race and hell-bent on undermining his support for Akpabio.

“However, if dissenting senators insist the contest should be settled on the senate floor come June 15, we are more than happy to oblige them. Nonetheless, we advise them to smell the coffee and realize that the confetti of endorsements coming Akpabio’s way is a testament to his wide national support base, credibility and acceptance which all but guarantees that, God willing, the race will soon descend from a contest into a coronation parade”.
