Group urges FG to enforce child rights law to stop abuse, molestation

Convener of Down to Heart: Speak Out, Mrs Adejoke Victoria Oyeleke, has urged the federal  government to enforce the child rights and violations against women’s laws in the country to tackle abuse.

Speaking in Ibadan at a one day sensitisation workshop on Child Abuse and Molestation, held at the Recreation Club, Mrs Oyeleke said this became necessary to put an end to the abuse and all forms of molestations facing children and women in the society.

According to her, this will also assist in protecting citizens of the country saying, “what we plan to achieve is a peaceful society for all and we want government to implement and enforce the child rights law to protect every citizen in our dear state and country”.

Oyeleke said the group came into existence about  a year ago to encourage people and to speak out in the face of daunting challenges.

“You will agree with me that a typical African woman is not allowed to speak in the family, society, community and in some religious settings, women are not allowed to speak at all. The silence of women has been a major challenge against major breakthroughs and many women have died in silence,” she said.

A guest speaker at the workshop, Pastor Marcus William, described child abuse as any action that puts children to harm, stressing that there was the need for parents to give the needed attention to their children as children to prevent their wards from being unjustly molested and abused.
