Group trains Southern Kaduna youth on response to conflict

The Southern Kaduna Dialogue Series (SKDS) in partnership with Youth Hub Africa Tuesday trained youth in the zone on conflict early warning and early response.

The training held in Kafanchan attracted participants from across the senatorial zone.

The facilitator of the training, Amina Mohammed, said understanding the early warning and response system was crucial as it ensures mitigation and prevention of conflicts.

Mohammed noted that the youth were in a position to prevent conflict situations and resolve crises before they escalate into major conflicts.

In her remarks, Deborah Yusuf, convener of SKDS, decried the spate of violent conflicts in Southern Kaduna, saying a more coordinated approach was needed to stem the tide.

Yusuf said the training was organised to build the capacity of the participants to identify conflict trends and initiate timely responses to prevent violent conflicts.

She said SKDS was committed to having solution- driven conversations on issues affecting Southern Kaduna with a view to charting a new course for the area.

Also speaking, Shedrack Danladi, the national president of the Southern Kaduna Youth and Students Forum commended the organisers of the training for their efforts at involving the youth in peace- building.

Danladi charged the participants to apply the knowledge and techniques acquired from the training to entrench peaceful and harmonious co-existence in the zone.

Some of the participants who spoke at the event pledged to step down the training in their respective communities geared towards improving the knowledge of many.
