As a way of making life better for Nigerians in the new year, the Muslim Media Watch Group (MMWG) yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure good governance in the land across the various sectors and the three arms of government.
This was as it expressed its reservations on a recent judicial pronouncement stopping arrest of serving judges by anti graft bodies in the country.
The group in a statement issued by its national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, admonished Buhari to prioritise his agenda in a way to make Nigerians feel the impacts of his administration positiely.
According to Abdullahi, though the President has shown remarkable performances in the areas of war against Boko Haram insurgency and corruption over the last two years, such could not be said in the area of economy, job creation , infrastructural development and fixing, particularly the power sector.
“These are areas the President should focus on this year as a way of making life better for Nigerians who may not have alternative than to call him to serve again for another term.
“We have studied the Nigerian situation in the last two and half years in office and we commend the administration on the fight against insurgency and corruption but despite the numerous achievements recorded, we believe that there are areas of improvement in all the three tiers of government.
“For this administration to enjoy the continuous support of the people, regular supply of electricity must be put on the front-burner this year. That the nation now generates 7,500 megawatts is not yet cheering news until we are able to constantly supply the product consistently for domestic and industrial use.
“This will gradually boost the economy as moribund industries that hitherto relied on diesel powering their generators will bounce back on regular electricity, which will eventually force down prices of goods and commodities to the satisfaction of the populace,” MMWG said.
