Group seeks urgent action on Adeosun, Adeleke certificate saga

The Say No Campaign group, a civil society organisation, has urged the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) to come out clear on the allegations of certificate forgeries involving two senior government officials currently rocking the media space.
In a press statement by the coconvener of the group, Ezenwa Nwagu on behalf of other NGOs; Centre for Transparency and Accountability, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, YIAGA Africa and others, it said the quick response of those agencies would speed up justice as well as boost the anti corruption fight of the current administration.
“The sensitivity of the positions occupied by these personalities in the society demands that these cases should not be dismissed with a wave of the hand, hence, Say No Campaign, through the FOI request has asked WAEC and NYSC to respond with certified true copies authenticating or refuting the certificates presented by these individuals,” he said.
In the case of Sen Ademola Adeleke, it said, “The certificate presented by Ademola Adeleke at the INEC screening for governorship candidate confirms a lot of discrepancies that need clarification in order not to suggest the obvious.” Besides, the irregularities in school names, subject registered for and the fact that all subjects, except one, were still pending as at July 2018 when the result was issued.
For an examination written in 1981, the statement of result states that the examination sat for by Ademola was an SSCE while the testimonial recorded that the same senator sat for WASSCE.
What a discrepancy,” it noted.
In the same vein, even though Mrs Adeosun, the erstwhile Minister of Finance resigned from her position on account of the scandal, it said the whole development is “quiet troubling and embarrassing, more so that NYSC has in a conspiracy of silence, allowed it to fester”.
It is therefore urged the relevant government agencies to stop keeping Nigerians waiting on those matters.
