Group seeks regulatory compliance to improve electricity supply

The Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) has urged Nigerians to comply with the various electricity regulations, particularly with a view of providing solution to address the erratic power supply in the country.

Coordinator, North-Central zone of the association, Hon. Isa Onuku, while briefing journalists on the outcome of a joint meeting held in Abuja between his group and KANN Consortium and owner of Abuja Disco, urged stakeholders to collaborate and address the challenges of regulatory compliance in electricity consumption to facilitate and actualise the objective of deregulating the power sector.
The meeting according to him centred on how to tackle the problems affecting the association and electricity consumers within Abuja, Nassarawa, Kogi and Niger zones to help eliminate some unscrupulous activities hampering growth in the distribution of electricity to the end users.
He lamented that over 50% of the total energy generated cannot be accounted for due to the unpatriotic exercises perpetuated by those he labelled as ‘’NEPA 2’’ staff that continue to undermine electricity regulations in the country.
‘’This NEPA 2 are people that the senior managers use for illegal work,’’ Hon. Onuku said.

The north central coordinator of the group further disclosed that the licensed engineers are the constituted authority empowered by law to mediate between the service providers and the consumers, urging users to always watch out and report anyone suspected to still be involved in such barbaric practises.
‘’Nigerians should change their attitudes with time and obey simple rules,’’ he appealed, noting that electricity regulations are aimed at protecting and ensuring quality service experience in the industry.
