Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni, Tuesday, declared open a one day maiden retreat and inauguration of Ummah Committees in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
Buni, who was represented by Yobe state Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mala Musti, stated that this was the first retreat organised by Yobe Muslim ummah forum aimed at ensuring Muslim unity and promote peaceful coexistence within committees.
The governor commended the organisers of the event for the deep thinking which made the retreat a platform for the promotion of unity and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims, Buni noted that 14 standing committees would shoulder responsibilities relating to Tsangaya school education, basic and secondary education, security, politics, youths, women and children, da awa, business and finance, social cohesion, and entrepreneur among others.
Presenting a keynote paper, a board member, National Islamic Center, Mallam Salisu Sintalma Abubakar, said the forum was aimed at “ensuring Muslim unity and promote peaceful coexistence, organised activities that would reach out to men and women so as to encourage them to imbibe the teaching big Islam and commit themselves to the upbringing of their homes and families.
