Good governance panacea for stable democracy –Dakup

By Donald Iorchir

An aviation expert, Dr. Dakup Sylvanus, has said that “good governance is a panacea for stable democracy and sustainable development in Nigeria.”
He stated this when he delivered a lecture on the occasion of the African Achievers Credible Leadership Discipline, Transparency and Accountability National Building and Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration Honoraris Causa by Corner Stone University of Jerusalem, Israel, at Utako.

He said governance was a process of decision making and that “human beings are born into this world with the opportunity of making themselves live better in their various communities.”
He noted that better conditions of living for citizens had been achieved in the developed nations of the world, like Britain, United States of America, Germany, Japan and others.

“In these countries, there are evidences of well-run education system, good organisation of industrial sectors, provisions of affordable shelter for citizens, national security and political stability. These are also explicitly the interdependence between growth, poverty reduction and sustainable developments which acknowledge that development rest on the foundations of democratic governance, the rule of law, respect for human rights, peace and security.”

Earlier, in his welcome address, the publisher/CEO of National Chronicle Magazine Amb. (Dr.) Godwin Nyitse, who anchored the occasion, said “our leaders must demonstrate leadership qualities, statesmanship, vision, capacity and sacrifice to transform our nation.”
He added that “we must strengthen common grounds, develop new areas of understanding and collaboration and seek fresh ideas that will enrich our national consensus.”
