The Gombe state government has announced plans to disburse N4.205 billion to 2,204 retirees as gratuity payment for the years 2019 and 2020.
The disclosure was made by the deputy governor, Dr. Mannasa Daniel Jatau, at a press briefing held after the state executive council meeting in Gombe Monday.
Dr. Jatau highlighted the administration’s commitment to settling retirement benefits, revealing that over N17.2 billion has been spent on gratuity payments under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.
He stated further that the present administration has paid the sum of N8.571 billion to 5,658 state government retirees and N4.596 billion disbursed to 6,027 local government council retirees, both covering the period from 2014 to 2018.
“These efforts underscore the administration’s dedication to honouring those who have served the state.
“The payments represent a significant step towards addressing the backlog of gratuity owed to retirees,” Dr. Jatau stated.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Maijama’a Kalmu, announced the approval of over N31 billion for the construction of road networks in the state.
“This includes the development of a three-arm zone and an 18-kilometer road project aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting economic activities.
“The Gombe state government reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare of its citizens and improving critical infrastructure across the state,” Kalmu said.
