‘God hasn’t sanctioned Biafra’

Sole spiritual head of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, has said that the ongoing agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra would not succeed since God was yet to approve of it.

Making this known in Calabar on the volatile security situation in the South-east in particular and the country in general within these past weeks, Obu, who had earlier ordered his followers to march around major streets in Calabar with proclamation of peace and unity of the country, said “Biafra is not in the agenda of God.”

He appealed to the country’s leadership to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, unity, forgiveness, adding that “Nigeria is one and will remain so.”

“Nigerians must learn to tolerate one another and live in peace. But leaders should take greater interest in ensuring that national resources are available to one and all instead of a few selfishly amassing them to the detriment of majority,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Thomas Commander, an aide to the spiritual leader, while explaining the programme of activities of his principal within the remaining months of the year, disclosed that Obu was leading about hundreds of his followers to Owerri, the heart of Ibo land, where he intends to meet with major stakeholders in the Southeast region, including governors and youth leaders.

Penultimate week, former Biafran war veteran, Col Joe Achuzia (retd), had led a group called Igbo World Congress, to see the spiritual leader in Calabar. During the meeting, Achuzia appealed to Obu to kindly intervene in the Biafra agitation, saying it is only the spiritual leader that the restive Ibo youths would listen to.

They resolved to hold what they called Ibo Love and Unity Feast, which occasion they aim to bring together many Ibo interests.
