GOC charges pupils, students to use internet positively

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lasisi Adegboye, has urged pupils and students to use
internet positively to improve on their studies and world knowledge.

Adegboye gave the advice  Tuesday while addressing pupils of
Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Group of Schools in
Enugu during an intra-school debate.

The topic of the debate was; “Internet Has Done More Harm than Good in
the Society.”

The GOC noted that the internet had made the world a global village
and as such, with internet, one can learn a whole range of positive and
impactful knowledge meant to better the society.

He acknowledge that there were negative uses of the
internet, “but you must aim for the positive side of it and use it to
broaden your learning and educational scope beyond the walls of your
classrooms.”

He said anybody, including a child in today’s world, who is
not internet compliant, is left behind.

“Today, the internet is required and beneficiary in every human
endeavour,” he said.

He urged parents and caregivers to ensure that children do the right
thing and learn the right thing anytime they are with internet enabled
devices.

“I will also enjoin our teachers to do more and ensure  that internet
devices are used positively for a holistic development meant to
benefit the individual child and the society,” he said.

On the debate, Adegboye stated that he was highly impressed with the
level of confidence displayed by the pupils participating in the
debate.

Earlier, Mrs Rasheedat Adegboye, chairperson of NAOWA, 82 division
chapter, noted that NAOWA was committed to instilling discipline and
academic excellence within all her schools.

Adegboye, who is also the wife of Major Geneneral  Adegboye, thanked
the staff for putting up the debate to broaden the pupils’ world view
and deepen their understanding about the internet.

In the debate, primary four defeated primary five by aggregate score
of 66 – 63; after three debaters from the proposing and opposing sides
presented their points to the listening audience.

Mister Chukwuma Michael, with 25 points, was the best speaker for the debate.
