Girl-child education taking shape in Kano – Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has said that girl-child education in the state was recording tremendous improvement, adding that the recent school enrolment had shown that the number of girls admitted into public schools was at par with that of boys. “Th is is because of our numerous incentives to promote girl-child education particularly the free education for girls’ policy,” he said. Th e governor made the disclose during the offi cial handing over of Sai’du Dan Maiki Girls Secondary School, constructed by Giwa Getso Foundation, in Kutama, Gwarzo local government area.

He said the government was determined to boost girlchild education as part of a grand design to accelerate economic development and ensure a refi ned social order in the state. “Th e Minister of Women Aff airs is here to encourage you to acquire education. Th e Minister is a lawyer and a former judge who nearly became the governor of Taraba state. You can also attend school and become of help to your families and communities just like her.” Ganduje said his administration initiated state and local government Education Promotion Committees to revitalise education and to stimulate community participation in the sector in view of the burden on the government.

Th e governor thanked Giwa Foundation for its philanthropic gestures, urging others to emulate it. He also urged benefi ciaries of its benevolence to make best use of the facilities provided to improve their living standard. In her remarks, the Minister of Women Aff airs, Hajiya Aisha Jummai Alhassan, who focused on the federal government’spoverty alleviation programmes for women, appealed to girls in Kano to pay more attention to education in view of its importance in the scheme of things. On his part, the chairman of Giwa Getso Foundation, Alhaji Bala Muhammad, who dwelt on activities of the Foundation, announced plans to construct a tertiary technical institute, a part of contribution to empower youths in the state. Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje has commissioned a multi-million naira Gesto township water supply project, also in Gwarzo local government area, and still provided by the Getso Foundation
