Girl-child Day: Foundation harps on adolescent girls’ challenges

A group, His Marvellous Grace Support Foundation, yesterday deliberated on the challenges of the adolescent girls, the need to promote their empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights.
Speaking during the occasion at the Great Anchor Comprehensive Schools, Agbede, Ikorodu, Lagos, the team leader and Visioner of the Foundation, Mrs. Damisi Tayo Ladega, talked about the challenges of the adolescent girls and advised them on when to say no to maintain their self esteem.
Also speaking, Mrs. Adkunle Adanna said the challenges of adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene, cultivating good habit (Etiquette), Lesianism and homosexually, sex does not stop menstrual pain, sexual and physical violence, including gender inequality.”
The theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl Child is “The Power of the Adolescent Girls.”
The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually to highlight issues concerning gender inequality facing young girls. The day was also set up by the United Nations in 2012 and focuses on the girl as a child to celebrate the potential of girls across the world in the face of threats, discrimination and the issues of their well-being.
According to United Nations, October 11 of every year is set aside to rally people for the cause of empowering girls worldwide so that they can have better educations, better survival rates, better protection from child marriage, sexual assault and better health services.
