Ghana league takes break for CHAN, WAFU

The Ghana Premier League is to go on two separate breaks between now and late September due to the 2018 CHAN qualifi ers and an upcoming WAFU Tournament to be hosted by the country. Already scheduled for the coming weekend is the FA Cup quarterfi nal round of matches following which there will be no league games till August 27. A statement by Ghana’s Premier League Board (PLB) explained that the decision paves way “for handlers of the Black Stars Team B to prepare adequately for the 2018 CAF CHAN qualifi ers with Burkina Faso.”

“Th e quarterfi nals of the MTN FA Cup will be honoured this weekend, and the Black Stars B Team, which is made up of players from the domestic league, will commence a one-week residential camp ahead of their twoleg qualifi ers with Burkina Faso, which will be played over a two-week period in August.” Ghana face the Burkinabes in a two-legged aff air – fi rst in Ouagadougou on August 11 and the reverse fi xture in Kumasi on the 18th. Th e winning team wins a slot at the main tournament in Kenya next year. “Th e Premier League returns with Match Day 25 and Match Day 26 on August 27 and August 30 before it goes on another three-week break in September to allow the Black Stars B to prepare and participate in the Ghana 2017 WAFU Tournament,” the PLB statement added. During these stoppages, three outstanding league games have been scheduled to be cleared.
