Gbajabiamila names committee heads without Jibrin

In a dramatic turn of event Thursday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila named heads of special and  standing committees of the House without his close ally, Abdulmumin Jibrin.

Jibrin was the arrowhead of the Speaker’s campaign organisation, and eventually steered it through to his emergence on June 11, when the House was inaugurated, but conspicuously missing in the list 105 committees announced.

However, some members who dropped their ambition for the speakership of the House were rewarded with strategic committees. For instance, former spokesman of the House, Abdulrazak Namadas who was one of the members that indicated interest, but dropped it along the way was named chairman of the committee on Army.

Also, Mukhtar Betara, another lawmaker who indicated interest for the speakership was named chairman of the committee on appropriations.

The lone opponent to Femi Gbajabiamila on the Inauguration day, Umar Bago was also named chairman of the committee on integration and cooperation in Africa, while Maritime Safety and Education went to Linda Ikpeazu, who seconded the motion nominating Gbajabiamila for the speakership.

On the Police Affairs is Usman Kumo, while for the Rule and Business is Abubakar Fulata, and Power had Magaji Dau and Jimi Benson as head of the committee on Defence.

Others include Airforce; Shehu Koko, Finance; James Faleke, Aviation; Nnoli Nnaji, Public Accounts; Wole Oke, North East Development Commission; Khadijah Bukar-Ibrahim, and Tajudeen Abass for Land Transport.
