Ganduje receives interim report on Kano-Lagos economic summit

Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has received interim report of the just concluded LagosKano Economic and Investment Summit, at the weekly state executive council meeting, held at the Government House, Kano.
The summit committee led, by Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, was received by the governor alongside the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners and other top government functionaries.
Usman reminded that, the summit was centrally aimed at collaboration between the two states to leverage on capabilities of the partnering states.
He emphasised that, “The summit focused on governance, power, infrastructure, security, tourism, agriculture value chain, ease of doing business among others.
” According to him, the implementation of the memoranda of understanding has already started with the two state Assemblies making the move for another collaborative engagement between the two states.
“We also recommended that each commissioner should collaborate with his counterpart from the other state, so as to perfect and strengthen all efforts spent at the summit,” Usman said.
To further encourage the recommendation for youth summit in the state, as poised by Dr Usman’s main committee, Governor Ganduje assured that government would fully support such idea for the development of the society.
The proposed youth summit would engage between 500 to 1,000 young men and women from across all the 44 local government areas of the state, in which they would be left on their own to organise it and define their terms of reference.
Supporting the summit, Ganduje said, “We are absolutely behind the proposed youth summit.
We will always support it.
We are behind it.
” He maintained that, his government would always come in for genuine strengthening of the fi nest idea.
But urged that all those who would be involved in the summit should not be partisan, insisting: “we only need those that are not in any way politically partisan.
It goes beyond politics and should be maintained as such.
” According to him, to address the problem, the state is providing ultra modern skills acquisition centre worth N5 billion, which will be furnished with modern equipment and qualified trainers.
“With that, I am assuring you that we will address unemployment issue drastically,” Ganduje said.
