As part of measures towards economic integration and development, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has in the past three and half years constructed roads and drainages worth N2.8 billion in parts of the state.
The governor said the roads were meant to link the rural communities with the urban centres in order to promote the movement of people and goods from the rural areas to the urban centres.
Gaidam stated this in Damaturu yesterday while addressing APC supporters and members who converted to show their solidarity to the governor and APC ruling party in the 2925 elections.
“As you are aware, Potiskum-Jakusko-Gashua-Kaliyari-Bayamari-Geidam, Bayamari-Yunusari-Jaji Maji-Kanasuwa-Bulanfa-Tetteba-Gingir-Karage and Moiduwa-Gadaka and Gashua-Yusufari roads have been completed,” he said.
The governor added that “work is on going on trans-Sahel route, Nguru-Machina, Damaturu-Bunu Yadi-Magza and Gadaka-Godowoli roads.”
He said “some of these roads are under the responsibility of the federal government pointing out that in view of the dangers posed by these roads due to the their levels of dilapidation; we had to take over and reconstruct them to reduce the sufferings of our people who are the main users of these roads.”
“Let me also add that the township roads in the major towns and cities of the state have been provided with 2,846 electric poles of solar-powered street lights covering a distance of 712 kilometres at the cost of N2.948 billion.”
The governor said also that his government had constructed  a total of 1,256 housing units for the civil servants and others  to address the lingering problem of acute shortage of housing accommodation in the state.
According to him, the state government has also built an ultra modern 200 beds hospital in Damaturu and provided it with furniture, staff quarters and medical equipment.
He said similarly, the Sani Abtcha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, and the General Hospitals in Jakusko, Bunu Yadi and Damagum have been rehabilitated and provided with modern medical equipment and essential drugs among others.
