Fulani, community guard clash claims 9 lives in Sokoto

Eight Fulanis herdsmen were reportedly killed following a clash between the Fulanis and Community Guard corps members which occured in Gada town of Gada local government of Sokoto state an eye witness has stated

Narrating the incident, an eye witness who does not want his name on paper, said that the incident occurred when the community guard members trailed the suspected Fulani bandits to the Gada weekly market and tried to invite him to their office for interrogation but he resisted

The source further said that the suspected Fulani bandit had been on their watch list for alleged kidnapping and other related criminal offences

The source said that the suspect was at the market and in the midst of his people when the community guard member invited him. An action they viewed as an afront and despicable to them

The source further said that when the community guard member name withheld introduced himself and invited the suspect to their office , the Fulanis rose in defense of their fellow and instantly killed the community guard member, an action that triggered and prompted the incident

He said that the community guard members mobilized themselves and launched reprisal attack on any Fulani man sighted in the town and neighbouring villages

The source said that instantly 6 Fulanis men were killed and 2 more were burnt to death

Gada local government is among the 8 local areas from the eastern part of the state that had been having series of terrorist activities

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations officer, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, said that the incident occured on Thursday and police has evacuated 6 Fulani’s dead bodies, saying “investigation is still ongoing.”
