FULafia to confer honorary doctorate degrees on Al-Makura, Bauchi, three others

Arrangements have been concluded by the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to confer honourary doctorate degree on the immediate past governor of Nasarawa state, and now the senator representing Nasarawa South senatorial district in the Ninth National Assembly, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Other personalities to be conferred with honourary doctorate degrees are Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Ambassador Ahmed Gazali and Abdulsamad Isiyaku Rabi’u.

A statement issued and signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations Unit of the University, Abubakar Ibrahim, in Lafia revealed that the late Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai, who died last year, will also be posthumously awarded the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa).

According to the statement, the conferment is part of activities to celebrate the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Convocation of the university, scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the university’s sports complex, permanent site campus, Makurdi road, Lafia, Nasarawa state.

The statement quoted the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Sanusi Liman, as saying that Al-Makura would be honoured for his invaluable contributions to the development of the university.

“We cannot thank him (Al-Makura) enough for all that he has done for our university while he was the governor,”  Liman said.

He further said that Al-Makura had raised the bar of delivering democratic dividends to the people of Nasarawa state and the university in particular.

Liman expressed his appreciation to the government and people of Nasarawa state for the hospitality and supports enjoyed by the FULafia saying, “We have continued to enjoy this support under the administration of Governor A. A. Sule and I say a big thank you to him.”

The VC also praised other awardees for their contributions to the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
