Foundation trains 10 Islamic scholars on deradicalisation, rehabilitation of insurgents 

 

Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Maiduguri,  weekend organised a one- day training workshop for 10 deradicalisation and rehabilitation of Islamic scholars  and preachers that will train and rehabilitate repentant and deradicalised  insurgents who have returned to their communities and ancestral homes.

Foundation office, Giwa Barrack, Maiduguri, is the last training session for the Islamic scholars and preachers, both male and female involved in the deradicalisation  programme embarked upon by Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development.

In her opening speech, the executive director, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Maiduguri, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, said the programme was part of the project activity organised in strengthening capacities and wills of Stakeholders and Participants for Transitional Justice and Reconciliation in Borno state.

She added that is was the last set of trainings set aside for the project which is being supported by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for selected Islamic scholars with ten (10)  participants drawn from  local government areas of  Borno state, namely Mafa, MMC, Jere and Konduga LGAs.

The executive director also noted that presently Allamin Foundation  trains  six males  of the Islamic Psychologists and four female  psychologists with the expectations that participants in their respective communities advocate for integration and acceptance of repentant Boko Haram sect members and deradicalised individuals associated with deradicalisation.

 She said over 120 deradicalised women and girls have so far been trained and rehabilitated as well as empowered with skills acquisition training in various skills and entrepreneurship  at different training periods and empowerment  programmes by Allamin Foundation with support from donors.

She tasked the 10 selected Islamic scholars and Preachers to endeavors to inculcate the knowledge, words  and messages of peace, love,  understanding, forgiveness, trust, confidence, progress and development by educating and  enlightening the repentant insurgents.
