The Lere Local Government Unity Associations Forum has threatened to take legal action against the organisers of the recently concluded 2024 Southern Kaduna Festival in Kafanchan for including its representatives in the programme booklet, describing the act as a misrepresentation.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, the forum’s chairman, Nasiru Bello Dembo, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the organisers, which include the Southern Kaduna Community Development Associations (DDAs Forum), Southern Kaduna Leadership Council, and Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU).
He accused them of intentionally tagging Lere local government representatives as part of Southern Kaduna to achieve hidden motives.
“We’ve written to the Zazzau Emirate and the lawmaker representing Zone 1, which Lere is part of. If the organisers fail to retract their steps, we won’t have any other option than to seek legal redress. We will take them to court,” Dembo stated.
The forum alleged that the inclusion of Honourable Munir Ahmed Mohammed, Hon. Munira S. Tanimu, Hon. Gatari Idris Bashir, and Hon. Jafaru Ahmed as representatives of Southern Kaduna was misleading and contrary to constitutional, cultural, and political realities.
Dembo clarified that Lere local government belongs to the Kaduna North Senatorial District, alongside Ikara, Kubau, Makarfi, Kudan, Soba, Sabon Gari, and Zaria local governments, as provided by Sections 71 and 72 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“The inclusion of our honourable members as representatives of Southern Kaduna is a gross misrepresentation of facts. Lere local government has no historical, cultural, or political affiliation with Southern Kaduna,” he stated.
