Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, and the Delta state police Command have resolved to bury over 100 unclaimed corpses at mortuary even as the majority of them were deposited by the police.
Blueprint gathered that about 50 corpses were disposed last month by the hospital.
Our correspondent also learnt that the option for a mass burial was considered following several meetings with the state Police Command.
It was learnt that the police had been notified of the unclaimed corpses they deposited.

The morgue has two sections, including the refrigerated morgue with capacity for 30 corpses and the dry embalmment section with a capacity for 150 corpses.
It was gathered that the mass burial of unclaimed corpses was aimed at decongesting the morgue.
It was further gathered that some had spent over six years and above, that was the reason for the mass burial.

It was learnt gathered that the police hierarchy was worried about the development as it may jeopardise some cases under investigation.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Victor Osaituma, confirmed that there had been meetings between the hospital and the police command.
“We have met severally on this issue, they are aware of our action. No sentiments about it, the hospital management and the police have good relationship. We may have different opinion on issues of policy, but we remain united,” he said.
