Flooding: FG orders closure of Tiga Bridge in Kano

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, has ordered the closure of Sarkin Kogi Bridge at Tiga in Bebeji local government area of Kano state.

The minister gave the order during a joint assessment visit to Tiga and Bagauda dams.

He said the order is key and vital for the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the deputy governor of Kano state, Hassan Musa Fagge, Tuesday, said the minister debunked some fake reports making the rounds that the spillway of both dams were malfunctioning.

“The attention of the FG has been drawn towards a mischievous report being circulated. The report claims that the spillway of Tiga and Bagauda dams are faulty and malfunctioning.

“The report is false in its entirety. We have assessed and realised that the water level of the dams has not risen. We believe the mischief makers designed this report in order to throw the public into confusion. People must therefore be very careful of such reports,” the statement said.

The minister also instructed the Hadejia -Jama’are River Basin Development Authority which is the major partner to continue with routine maintenance of the dams.

Governor Umar Ganduje who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna at the joint assessment, extended his appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari through the minister for the timely response.
