First Surat Group rues NTIC performance, partners Gaidam

The management of First Surat Group, which runs the Nigeria Tulip International Colleges (NTIC) and the Nigeria Nile University (NTNU), has called on Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam to support the Group in its bid to improve the education of its students at the state’s branch of NTIC.

Th e First Surat Group delegation, which included the Chairman, Mr. Mehmet Bashturk, Vice Chancellor Nile University, Mr. Huseyin Sert, Managing Director, Mr. Orhan Kertim and the Dean of Post Graduate School, Nile University, Prof. Musa Muhammed, met the governor in Abuja yesterday.

The Managing Director, Kertim, said that Yobe NTIC students “continue to excel in relevant national examinations, including WAEC and JAMB”, and revealed that students’ performance for WAEC for the year was 100 percent, while the average for JAMB was 240 marks.

Kertim added that Yobe NTIC was second among all NTIC schools in all examinations nationwide, after Ogun NTIC.

“Th ere is a lot of potential in Yobe.

Th e zeal to learn among students is fantastic.

And because of Your Excellency’s support to the education sector in the state, Yobe will continue to do well and move further along educationally”, he said.

Gaidam, who thanked the delegation for their visit, said the state government will sustain the partnership between it and the Group.

By Vivian Okejeme Abuja Trial of former Governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, in the alleged N9.7billion fraud, began yesterday, before Justice Gabriel Kolawale of a Federal High Court, Abuja.

Suswam and his co-defendants are facing a 32-count charge for allegedly diverting the sum of N9.7 million meant for police reform and Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

Th e prosecution alleged that the defendants diverted the said funds between 2012 and 2015, while Suswam was governor.

At the resumed trial, the fi rst prosecution witness, Mr. Eugene Tersoo Ovorvhi-Ivasa, revealed that the sum of N450 million was owed the state Government House Administration as at the time he was deployed to the offi ce of the Head of Service in June 2015.

While being led in evidence-inchief by the prosecution counsel, Kayode Alilu, the witness, who was the Principal Secretary of the state government house administration, said that the house Chief Accountant, Janet Aluga, signed the payment voucher on his behalf even while he was in office.

Orvihi-ivase said as the principal secretary, government house administration wrote to the former governor, requesting for the payment of N450 million, being owed the state government house administration for 10 months.
