Fire outbreak: Yobe varsity assures parents of students’ well-being

The Vice Chancellor of Yobe state university, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura, has reassured parents and guidance of their children well being at the university after the recent fire inferno at the university new female hostel.

Daura made the statement Friday while briefing journalists on the status of the university after the recent fire inferno at that engulfed the entire new female hostel which accommodate about 195 students.

He said the management of the university through its committee is utilizing all the support given to students that are affected by the disaster.

Professor Daura appreciated the transparency of the committee and it constant reporting to the VV’s office on daily basis on the happenings about the situation and the affected students.

“The place where the students are residing now cannot be permanent accommodations, we are looking forward for a permanent accommodations for them.

“We have a building that are not been completed,we went and make survey and proposal to the state government to complete the construction of that building,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor further revealed that the university has received support from government, non-governmental organizations, investment companies, ministries, state Assembly, National Assembly, cooperate organization as well as from individuals respectively.

He noted that, on their own, the management of the university has provided over one thousand(1000) pieces of note books to the distressed students and writing materials.

According to the VC, the university management also took the responsibility of providing condiments, ingredients for cooking food three time a day for the 195 distressed students while the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have provided the food stuffs.

He thanked the state fire service, security personals and members of the communities for the assistance and support during and after the incident.
