The management of Nasarawa state University Keffi, NSUK, has offered assistance of N50,000.00 each and free hostel accommodation to the fifteen (15) off-campus students whose rented apartment outside the University was gutted by fire recently.
Recall that last month pricisely on the 3rd of February, 2025, 15 off-campus students’ accommodation was raised down by a fire inferno caused by an electrical fault from one of the rooms that destroyed almost all of their belongings and rendered them homeless since then.
Announcing the donation in her speech during the institution’s 2024/2025 students matriculation ceremony held at the convocation square of the university, the vice Chancellor of the universe, professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, explained that the gesture is aimed at alleviating their suffering.
She said, “As your sweet mother, I feel and share your pain and because the university under my watch really cares for you since my inception as the substantive Vice Chancellor and so we are always there for you.
“Only yesterday the management offered assistance of 50,000.00 each and free hostel accommodation to the fifteen off-campus students whose rented accommodation outside the University was gutted by fire on 3rd February, 2025 to alleviate their suffering.
“You should also note that the management has put in place a 21-member students’ Representative Council (SRC) domiciled in the students Affairs Division to provide the required students leadership and appropriate channel of communication with the university authority through the Dean of studies amongst others.”
The vice Chancellor, announced also that in that 2024/2025 academic session, the institution has admitted over 7,500 students into the various undergraduate programmes of the university.
She then congratulated the new students, admonishing them against engaging in violence or wanton destruction of any of the institution’s property instead they should work hard to excel in their studies.
Highlights of the event were the formal oath taking by the newly addmitted students, academic procession by the principal officers/staff of the university, taking of photographs among others.
