Finidi didn’t enjoy support as S/Eagles coach – Ogunmodede

Daniel Ogunmodede, coach of NPFL club Remo Stars, has said Finidi George did not get enough support to succeed as Super Eagles coach.

‘Ijaball’ also went further to explain the only ways “local coaches” can succeed with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, describing the Finidi issue as an affront to local coaches’ dignity.

“It’s an affront to the dignity of local coaches, how Finidi was treated.” he told Official 54fx.

“Finidi was a thing of joy for us. I was so happy (even as the secretary of the league club managers), we wanted the best for him.”

“But look at the way he (Finidi) was “jet” out, there was not enough support. If you want a coach to do well, give him better support.”

“He once told me; There is no club without its own crisis, you can only manage them. So, if the crisis is more than the coach, the coach tends to fail and at the end they look at the coach like a failure.”

“If at all any job is coming from the National team to any of the local coaches, there must be total support for the coach to excel.”

On the possibility of taking the Super Eagles job if asked, he said: “The truth is, if opportunity comes, it is a clarion call, this is our country and we can’t run away.

“I had the opportunity to stay in Europe, but of what use if i can’t come back to my country to make things happen. As much as I do, these guys will not respect us there, so the best thing is to bring this knowledge home and try to see how we all can benefit from it.

“So, if opportunity comes, today or tomorrow, there is no room to say no. The national team is bigger than any one of us.”
