Final year UNIBEN student drowns in Edo, Police arrest 2 

Operatives of Edo state Police command has arrested two students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in connection with the drowning of their collegue in a river located in the University community.

The suspects are Samson Kennedy, a 200 level Biochemistry and Wilfred Emmanuel, a 500 level student of Optometry respectively.

The suspects were said to be neighbors of  the victim, Francis Anuiude, 23, and had “invited the latter to Ekosodin River on June 29th to have fun”.

Blueprint gathered that Kennedy and Emmanuel were said to have returned to the school campus minutes later, during which they raised alarm that Aniude had drowned.

The victim’s remain  was reportedly recovered by local divers on July 1.

The incident took a twist following the discovery of blood on the deceased lips and peeled skin around his neck region- raising suspicion among his relatives.

Spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor said the duo were arrested to help the police in investigating the circumstances behind the death.
