FIFA U17 World Cup: Spain, Brazil hit quarter-final

A final group stage defeat to France condemned the US to a second placed finish in Group E and set up a Round of 16 clash against Group F winners Germany.

The Americans were widely outplayed by France and can expect an equally tough game in the next stage with Germany recording three wins from three bagging three goals in each of the wins: Mexico 3-1, New Zealand 3-1 and Venezuela 3-0.

The USYNT are in Round of 16 action on Tuesday, 21 November with the game against Germany scheduled for the Jalak Harupat Soreang Stadium (Indonesia) kicking off at 03:30 am ET and 00:30 am PT.

This will be the third time that the United States will face Germany at the U-17 World Cup with the Europeans prevailing on both previous meetings with the last time the two met at the competition being 2011, when Germany beat the US with an emphatic 4-0 win.

The Round of 16 of the U17 World Cup kicked off on Monday with wins for Brazil who beat Ecuador with Spain edging out Japan with a 2-1 win.

Four games will be played on Tuesday. In addition to Germany vs. the United States, Mali vs. Mexico will also play at the same time with Morocco and Iran and Argentina and Venezuela concluding the action for the day.

The Round of 16 draws to close on Wednesday, 22 November with England playing Uzbekistan with highly fancied France taking on Senegal
