FG’ll give necessary support to NBA – Malami

The federal government has reiterated its resolve to provide necessary support to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in its quest to overcome problems militating against the profession in the country.

Giving the assurance at a two-day Body of Attorneys General Council of the Bar Legal Practitioners Remuneration Committee, the AGF said the federal government was poised to reposition the legal profession so the leadership of the NBA can deliver on its mandate.

While urging the remuneration committee to discharge its statutory responsibility duty, he charged them to incorporate new lawyers into the fold to aid their development in the profession.

“The committee will among other things regulate and standardise legal practitioners’ remuneration which for us was overdue for review.

“Therefore, the government is poised to provide necessary support to NBA so that the association can conveniently address some of the problems of the profession in the country,” he said.

Also speaking, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, described the move as apt, saying it was an aspect of the law that has remained dormant.

“We know there are challenges but with this programme, we would be able to strengthen our relationships,” he said.

Maikyau thereafter commended Malami for impacting the judiciary through various reforms and programmes.

In a brief remark the chairman, body of the AGF, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN reminded stakeholders that the move was part of the rebuilding process.
