FG will partner Church to boost education – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that his administration would partner with the Church and other stakeholders to improve the standards of education in the country.
Speaking at the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), held at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral in Abuja, Jonathan said nationalisation of mission schools has affected the moral growth of the education sector.

He said: “I commend the state governments which are partnering with churches to improve the quality of schools as mentioned by the Bishop. I also urge other state governments to do so in their states.
“On our part, we are committed to the necessary dialogue with the Church and other stakeholders that will move education forward. We have devoted more resources to the sector.

“We have increased school enrollment and improved infrastructure. We are doing our best to resolve industrial crises which are mostly due to inherited problems that are not caused by our administration.”
He said Catholic Church and other Christian groups played significant role in the evolution and continued growth of western education in the country, which dates back to colonial days.
The president called for more prayers from the Church, saying its prayers have kept the country united.
