FG targets multi-billion naira revenues from helicopters landing platforms

To boost revenue into the federal government coffer from the aviation sector, the FG has engaged a service company to collect helicopter landing and take-off charges from over 250 landing platforms across Nigeria.

The firm, NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited, according to it Managing Director, Mr. Stanley Chike will carry out the service in collaboration with Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in order to provide precise statistics of an estimated 200 helicopters that operates with the Nigerian airspace .

He said the platforms include heliports, helidecks, airstrips as well as aerodromes, fixed based organisations, floating production storage and off loading platforms that are located in different locations in the country.

In an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, Chike disclosed that the firm will also set up a Multi- National Control Centre for the deployment of data- driven solutions to capture the operations in the Nigerian airspace.

Chike explained that part of the benefits of the partnership will increase government revenue, and boost surveillance measures for low flying helicopters that hitherto escape the scope of the radar for location identification.

The NAEBI Dynamic Boss said “I commend the FG, Ministry of Aviation for standing boldly that this must be implemented. It is a global practice and by Chicago Convention whatever is done in America and in Aviation and is the same thing that is carried out in Canada, whatever is done in Canada is carried out in Nigeria, in Ghana that is a global practice, so the IOCs will not pretend that they do not know that this practice is what happens in their own country but we went further to make sure that outside ICAO law, it is household law enshrined in our act, it is a law nationally, it is a law globally, in other countries they charge by weight but here we just have a price tag”.

“You could recall we had an helicopter issues of unknown helicopter coming into the country, into the state without identity, nobody gives report of this and the FG say this is laudable we can work with you and found us worthy, I always thank the Federal Government because one thing is to have a policy and another thing is to implement ’’.

He also urged International Oil Companies, IOCs and Local Oil Companies, LOCs to abide by the decision of the federal government as regards paying for take-off and landing of choppers working for them.
