FG spends N246bn on basic education in 7 years – UBEB

The federal government has spent over N246 billion on basic education from 2007 to date, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Sulieman Dikko, has said.
Dikko stated this yesterday in Minna at a training seminar for 613 nomadic education teachers from the North-central zone.
He said government had been donating N1.5 billion to each state yearly for the enhancement of basic education, adding that government was aware that the current security challenges could be resolved through provision of basic education, and that “this the reason for the attention given to basic education and the huge funds invested in it.”

In his remarks, Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyuof Niger state said his administration was in the process of recruiting 4, 000 teachers out of which 800 would be sent to rural areas, including nomadic schools.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Danladi Abdulhameed, said the state had 274 nomadic schools to ensure formal education of the children of Fulani herdsmen.
He said the administration had begun rehabilitation of grazing reserves land in the state to avoid clashes between herdsmen and farmer as was the case in other states.
