Nigeria and the United States of America have reached an agreement on new bilateral policy focused on trade and investment.
The deal formally launches trade and investment dialogue between the two countries dubbed US.-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Dialogue (CID).
The first CID will hold in the US in 2018.
The deal was signed yesterday in Abuja by the US Department of Commerce and Nigeria’s Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment.
CID, according to the policy document, is designed to promote increased, diverse, and sustained trade and investment between the US and Nigeria.
It is the newest instrument of US engagement with Nigeria and leverages the voice of the private sector in the effort to enhance the bilateral commercial and investment relationship.
Nigeria’s Minister of Industry Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelemah, signed Nigeria’s portion of the deal, while the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, John J. Sullivan, signed on behalf of his country’s government.
CID will initially focus on infrastructure, agriculture, digital economy, investment, and regulatory reform.
