The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with Across Atlantic Development (AAD) United Kingdom through the Private Public Partnership (PPP) Initiative, for the development of science and technology park and museum in Abuja.
Speaking, the Minister FMSTI Dr. Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora said the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has been championing the establishment of Science and Technology Parks in Nigeria since 2006.
The Minister stated this during the ground breaking ceremony and signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of science and technology park SHESTCO, SHEDA, and also for the development of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Museum in Abuja, Tuesday.
“The implementation began in 2007 after a base-line study (survey) was conducted across the country to determine the Science, Engineering. Technology and Innovation (SETI landscape of the country, after which six Science Parks, one in each Geo-political zone was proposed. The idea of establishing six Science Parks was changed in 2009 and the focus was on establishing a Model Science and Technology Park at Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO), Sheda, Abuja where 79.5 hectares of land was provided where the Model Science and Technology Park is to be replicated by State Governments, Universities, the Private Sector and other interested organizations in the country.
