FG renews partnership with UN-Habitat on urban development

The federal government has reassured the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) of its continued partnership, saying that the previous collaboration yielded the desired results.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who spoke on Friday in Abuja when he received a delegation of officials of UN-Habitat, also assured of the Federal Government’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the organization on urban development in Nigeria.
He stated that the basis of UN-Habitat’s new vision of “a better quality life for all in an urbanizing world” aligns fully with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for housing and sustainable urban development.”Dangiwa said: “It is for this reason that I am so impressed with your Strategic Plan for the period 2020- 2023. In it, I see several points of intersection with the Renewed Hope Agenda of our government. This includes reduced spatial inequality and poverty in communities across the urban-rural continuum; enhanced shared prosperity of cities and regions, strengthened climate action and improved urban environment, as well as effective urban crisis prevention and response.
“It is, therefore, my hope that this meeting will not just be another routine courtesy ritual for us as new Ministers. I would like this event today to mark a new, bolder, innovative, and more impactful partnership between our Ministry and UN-Habitat. One that reflects the new vision of UN-Habitat.”the Director of the Regional Office for Africa, UN-Habitat,  Dr. Ouma Sylla,  who led the delegation, recalled that the collaboration between the UN-Habitat and  Nigeria started a long time ago,  adding that Nigeria has been playing a fundamental role in elevating the agenda of his organisation.
“So, we come here today to reaffirm the commitment of UN-Habitat to working with the government of Nigeria and to also hear from you as a Minister of Housing and Urban Development on this partnership.”  he said.
