FG pledges to build cancer centers in 6 geopolitical zones  

 

The federal government has pledged to build six cancer centers in each of the six geopolitical zone in the country.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said this during the World Cancer Day Symposium organised by Project Pink Blue, with the theme: “Economy, Taxation and Cancer Control: The Exit of Pharmaceutical Companies from Nigeria,” in Abuja.

He stated that the various pharmaceutical companies are to reduce the cost of cancer chemotherapeutic drugs and ensure that some pharmaceutical companies such as Roche, Pfizer and a host of others comply.

Alausa said the federal government is partnering key pharmaceutical companies to ensure reduction of cancer medicines to about 50%.

He added that that it will boost affordable healthcare services in the country.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, stated that efforts are in place to mitigate cancer challenges taking cognizance of the exit of pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria.
