FG pledges co-operation with Turkish construction companies

The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurentia Mallam, has pledged to cooperate with Turkish Construction Companies operating in Nigeria to ensure that a full comprehensive environmental impact assessment is carried out on every major construction project involving Turkish Companies with a view to ensuring full compliance with local environmental regulations.

The minister also stated that appropriate monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that every environmental impact assessment certificate issued for any project is monitored to ensure full compliance with the specifications in the certificate, adding that the era of merely issuing E.I.A certificate is over.

Mrs.Mallam made the remarks in Abuja when a delegation of Turkish Construction companies led by Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Ambassador Mustapha Pulat who was accompanied by the Director-General of the Free Trade Zones, Overseas Investment and Services in the Ministry of the Economy of Turkey paid her a courtesy call in Abuja.

Earlier in his presentation to the minister, Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria and leader of delegation, Ambassador Mustapha Pulat told the minister that his country is interested in having her construction companies operating in Nigeria to localise their operations by fully complying with Nigerian’s environmental laws and regulations, adding Turkish construction companies must be environmentally friendly in their conduct and operations.
Also speaking at the occasion, Turkish Director-General of Free Trade Zones, Overseas Investment and Services in the Ministry of the Economy, Mr.UgurOztink revealed that Turkey has got tremendous experience in the construction industry, with strict adherence to environmental standards, adding that his country is willing to share the experience with Nigeria.
