FG moves to revamp healthcare across the federation

The federal government has allocated N55 billion from the 2019 budget for provision of basic healthcare services for Nigerians in different wards across the federation.

Executive Secretary of theNational Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaibu, revealed this while addressing newsmen Tuesday in Abuja, during the one year anniversary of the Technical Support Programme and maiden graduation of the Leadership Development Academy.

He said that the Ministry of Health, NPHCDA, National Health Insurance Scheme and other health agencies shall use the fund to service healthcare facilities across each wards of the federation for the benefits of all, adding  that the fund will be sent directly to the state and primary healthcare centers for renovations and servicing.

Shuaibu added that the technical support programme, as domiciled within the primary healthcare development agency, will coordinate all the technical assistance in a way that every body is brought on board, all the stakeholders understand their areas of involvement in technical assistance.

He said: “Provision of electricity, water supply, human resources shall also be considered because some of the health facilities do not have the human resources, including the nurses, midwives required to provide effective service delivery, provision of drugs and engaging with the community on basic health awareness. Even on the part of the NPHCDA, we are able to understand the gap in primary healthcare delivery.

“In terms of proportion, 45 per cent of this fund are for basic healthcare services through the NPHCDA, 50 per cent through NHIS and the remaining 5 per cent is for the Federal Ministry of Health. To enhance capacity building, having observed after deep analysis that there is a lack of coherence where states relate with NPHCDA and the ministry of health in terms of asking for technical support, we will intervene.”
