FG, heed legal advice to end Mambilla hydropower dispute

Unlike the P&ID case which was riddled with corruption, bribery and preemptive contractual loopholes, the Sunrise Vs FGN (Mambilla Hydro Power) might be different.

Aside similar allegations against Sunrise, there are overwhelming evidence against the Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN. No amount of arm twisting or blackmail would give FGN a better case or a way out.

It is on this premise that some legal luminaries like Chief Afe Babalola and Chief Wale Olanipekun, SAN, have reportedly advised the federal government to settle the dispute on Mambilla Hydropower project amicably with Sunrise Power Transmission and save the nation further embarrassment.

With documentary evidence and correspondence from the FGN to Sunrise all submitted to the ICC tribunal, it is almost impossible for the FGN to win against Sunrise.

Interestingly, Sunrise has shown commitment towards peaceful resolution but continues to fight for its right in court.

Many Nigerians have, therefore, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to wade in and resolve this problem amicably.

Unfortunately, certain elements in the department of justice and an appointed international legal firm continue to press on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe and advance unsubstantiated allegations.

Would President Tinubu break the jinx? is the big question.
