FG, Gombe partner on water projects to boost food production

The Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has hailed the implementation of the Rehabilitation, Expansion, and Upgrade of the Gombe Regional Water Supply project, a partnership project between the Federal Government and the Gombe State Government as a huge success.

This is even as he revealed that the project has the potential and capable of boosting food production in Nigeria.

A statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, Goronyo made the commendation during a courtesy visit to Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at the Government House, Gombe recently.

The visit was part of his 3-day familiarization tour of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA).

According to the Minister, the project which saw the Federal Government contributing 30 per cent of the contract sum and Gombe State Government contributing 70 per cent aligns with the National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy.

While noting that the project has reached 90 per cent completion level Goronyo said what was left was the installation of the electro-mechanical equipment.

The minister also commissioned two out of the six PEWASH projects executed in Gombe Metropolis as well as the inspection of several other projects.

He urged other State Governors to emulate the laudable engagement and unwavering collaboration between Gombe State Government’ and the Federal Government in projects’ execution’.

Similarly, the minister, also visited Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, where he reiterated the need for collaborate with his ministry through the UBRBDA in priority areas of the 8-point Agenda of Mr. President.

Accordingly, Fintiri assured of his government’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government on laudable initiatives that bear significance to the success of the food security agenda of the present administration.
