The federal government has commenced development of new curriculum for teacher training so as to enhance effective teaching and learning at primary and secondary education levels.
In the same vein, colleges of education would soon be restructured to give way foe the successful implementation of the new learning guide.
Executive secretary of National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Monday Joshua, disclosed this at a three-day capacity building workshop for Quality Assurance officers in Federal and Teacher Development (TDP) Focal Colleges on the implementation of quality assurance in colleges of education.
He disclosed that the commission had also strengthened its quality assurance mechanism towards ensuring production of quality teachers that would teach in schools across the country.
Joshua noted that the Commission had, two years ago, directed all the colleges of education to establish functional quality assurance unit and appointment of quality assurance officers under the management of their institutions.
He said this would enable the institution carry out self-evaluation and effective use of accreditation toolkit developed by the commission and distributed to the institutions.
He said: “In the recent past, we have rebranded our NCE minimum standards in such a way that it is in tune with the contents and methodology recommended by the Nigerian Educational Research Development Council (NERDC) National Curriculum and have also accommodated all the teachers required in accordance with the UBE Act 2004.
“Moreover, we have refined our instruments of accreditation and teaching practice in line with global best practice.”
