FG breaks silence on Nigerian student ‘killed’ by Chinese in Philippines

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said it will investigate the death of a Nigerian student simply known as Ikem, who was allegedly killed by a group of Chinese in the Philippines.

Spokesperson for NiDCOM in Abuja, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said this in a statement on Monday.

Blueprint learnt that on Sunday, An X user, @michaelojuola, wrote on his handle that the deceased’s hands were tied, his mouth covered and was beaten to death.

The user then called on NiDCOM and other relevant authorities to intervene.

Reacting to the incident, the Commission wrote on their X handle: ”The attention of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has been drawn to a viral social media news item on the death of a Nigerian student, identified as Ikem, who was allegedly murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of Philippines.

“Though the matter had not been officially reported to the Nigerian embassy in the Phillipines, NIDCOM has asked the “ eyewitness “ who posted the gory incident on his social media handle to provide more details to the Commission’s e-mail —[email protected].

“The Commission will set the machinery in motion to investigate the matter and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
