Fencing holds developmental programme in Lagos schools

As part of efforts geared towards developing and popularizing fencing in the country, the Nigeria Fencing Federation would be embarking on a two- day Grassroots Development Programme from October 29 to 30 in three Local Government Areas in Lagos.

According to NFF president, Yinka Samuel, over 500 kids as well as about 10 Physical and Health Education teachers would be initiated to the sport in Eti Osa, Apapa and Ajegulne Local government Areas of Lagos .

Samuel, who is also the director of the programme, disclosed that Nigeria has gained immensely from its hosting of the African Fencing Championship in Lagos in 2018 as the sports has been constantly expanding to various states and geographical zones across the country.

The exercise would commence on Tuesday at St. George Primary School Falomo, Ikoyi with the training of PE teaches which would be followed by introduction of fencing to the pupils while the day’s activity would be drawn to a close with a single bout session.

The train would them move to United Christian School, Apapa on Wednesday with the session starting with teachers getting introduced to the sport and it would be followed by pupils’ introduction to the fencing and the school’s programme would be ended by single bout session.
