The Commander of Amotekun in Osun state, Adekunle Omoyele, Tuesday, said the fear over creation of state police is unnecessary and needless.
Omoyele who spoke to journalists in Osogbo, said the best way to fight terrorism is to allow those who are conversant with the nooks and crannies of their states to face the criminals.
Noting that the mining sites in Ijesaland has caused the influx of criminals into Osun, Omoyele said the state is in synergy with neighbouring states to curb the influx of terrorists from other parts of the country.
He stated that plans have been perfected with Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun states to tackle the criminals and flux them out of South -west, Omoyele stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke has made provision for Amotekun in the 2025 budget, even as he promised to empower the corps for better performance.
Omoyele, who lamented shortage of personnel in Osun, said the command has submitted proposals to the governor for recruitment of corps.
Reacting to the agitation for state policing and the criticisms against it, Omoyele dismissed the fear that the police would be abused by politicians, saying the benefit of state policing transcends the fear that greeted it.
He posited that the law that will guide its creation would take care of the fear being expressed by people, noting that the benefit deserves to be given more attention than the fear.
