FCTA warns over encroachment on dam reserve areas

In a bid to ensure that residents enjoy steady supply of potable water, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola has carried out inspection tour of the Lower Usuma Dam treatment plant, located in Bwari area council.

The permanent secretary said the visit was to ascertain areas the administration needs to improve upon, noting that the construction of the water treatment plant showed the administration’s huge investment in the advancement of the welfare of her citizens.

Adesola further disclosed that the FCT Administration was taking necessary precautionary measures to avert any ugly situation around the dam but expressed shock over the massive encroachment around the dam reserve areas.

He explained that in the event of any failure, the volume of water from the dam could submerge the entire Bwari, describing as totally unacceptable and reprehensible, the spate of destruction of government critical facilities.

The permanent secretary directed the acting Managing Director of Water Board, Mrs. Joy Okoro to work with the security department to ensure men of the Civil Defence Corps attached to the board are redeployed to protect all facilities in line with the mandate of the corps.
